<html> <head> <style></style></head> <body class='hmmessage'><div dir='ltr'> Hello, I'm having trouble with speech frequently crashing on my archlinux machine. I tend to run a system update every morning after I check my e-mail (in case there's any announcements of problems to expect). Around the change-over to gnome-3 I enabled the archlinux testing repositories. I build several packages from their git source code through AUR-provided buildscripts: atk, at-spi2-core, at-spi2-atk, pyatspi, speech-dispatcher, orca and espeak-test (I tend to check for updates to these packages in this order). I took a few days off durring the holidays while I had some visiting houseguests, and didn't even turn my computer on for about 5 days. When I went through my usual routine on Wednesday, speech began crashing. Speech output will stop in the middle of different tasks (haven't noticed any pattern). If I kill orca and re-launch, I see the white splash-screen pop up, but still get no sound. If I kill orca then jump to a text terminal and use speakup to restart speechd (# /etc/rc.d/speech restart), return to gnome and relaunch orca, I get the beginning of speech, but it fails to finish initializing. Under normal circumstances orca will start off saying something along the lines of "Welcom to orca. Orca screen window. Preferences button." but now orca is only getting as far as "Welcom to orca. Orca screen window." and no further speech is possible even with the various review commands. For a few months previous to this, I've been having trouble with orca randomly going silent, but relaunchghing either orca or additionally speech-dispatcher would work and speech would continue. Not the most ideal situation, but workable enough for my limmited needs. I had tried unsuccessfully to determine any kind of cause for this previous behavior, but it appeared limmited to my machine only. With this expanded silencing issue, there appears to at least be some relevant-looking entries in my kernal.log file. Is the above enough for someone more knowledgeable than I to determine, is speech-dispatcher crashing or at-spi? How can I obtain more detailed debug file to provide to the appropriate development team? Would enabling orca's debugging at highest sensitivity be a good place to start? (I can do that in orca-customizations.py) With the current state of speech loss, orca and gome are effectively unusable to me. I appreciate any helpin correcting this situation.
