In the case of FEL, the desktop environment and the extra software which needed for electronics are separate items. with %include fedora-livecd-kde.ks Thereby, the core is being prepared and developed by KDE sig while, we(FEL) can concentrate on electronics only. So the only testing needed is to test the extra software needed for FEL, normally I test each software through my own designs, but little by little I'm creating an automated testsuite that will qualify each new update and the design tools FEL provide. https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-electronic-lab/browser/testsuite The testsuite is open and can be used by other contributors as well. >From a hierarchical point of view, this decrease the work load and let spin maintainers concentrate on improving the spins both in terms in documentation and packaging. I once proposed this idea to szdiallas (FedoraEducation) I think he opted some of FEL ground work already so that he can concentrate on the goals of his spin and less software headaches. I would like to discuss how we can integrate those simulators into a possible design flow. Hence we can use the outcome of this meeting to "train" our Fedora ambassadors how they can market FEL around the world. We already have a design flow that enables users to design their chips. Hence as a case example users can design their 8051/8085 chips with alliance/magic design flow and use the 8085/8051 simulators to simulate their code they will program on the chips. This is how I see those simulators very handy. I hope during that meeting we can talk about this and what we can do to improve design experience ? Has FEL any special logo ? And there is one more thing. A few days ago I have released one MCU programmer as a part of MCU 8051 IDE project. And I am going to release at least one more device of that kind. MCU programmes are hardware tools but they requires some special software to contol them. Add '-p' after every install command. For exaple: 35 install -p -d $RPM_BUILD_ROOT%{_bindir} #3 Install the man file. To do this you can add these lines in %install section install -p -d $RPM_BUILD_ROOT%{_mandir}/man1 install -p -m 644 qtdmm.1 $RPM_BUILD_ROOT%{_mandir}/man1/%{name}.1 and add the following line to the %files section %{_mandir}/man1/%{name}.1.gz #4 I believe you should remove the 'Vendor' tag #5 Version of qt-devel need not be mentioned. qt3-devel should be qt- devel. The package builds quite perfectly with qt4-devel as well. #6 'Requires qt' is not required as qt-devel will always pull qt. If a system has qt-devel in it it will always have qt in it. #7 Generally 'Name' should come first followed by 'Version'. Also, the summary should be clear like 'A digital multimeter readout software'. Well that's almost all of it. It seems to me that it comes from suse or mandriva as it is not compatible with Fedora packaging guidelines. I recommend you to follow sherry's spec as example especially the sequence of the Name, Version, Release upto the description. https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-electronic- lab/attachment/ticket/23/qtdmm.spec This is the most important part and the first thing reviewers look at. All fedora spec files should follow the same template. Update your spec file accordingly. Beautiful spec files attract more reviewers and the quicker the package will be approved. Also for Fedora Electronic Lab we have a special menu structure for desktop files provided by electronics-menu. See sherry's spec file for more details. As for your new desktop file, it should be in the form of a patch. The reason behind this is that fedora is upstream oriented and as a packager your changes or modifications should be sent to upstream. Hence you can send your patches and [[BR]] 1) upstream will add your name in their changelog[[BR]] 2) you don't need to fix the spec file again, but just remove the patch.[[BR]] 3) it make review process easy to understand your modifications[[BR]] @sherry I appreciate you are getting involved in the reviewing process as well. It helps you gain experience quietly. And also in the future, I will need you to review my packages :) As for your spec file, whenever you base your spec file from other, append the changelog and not clean it. This helps to understand difference decisions taken in the past. -- Ticket URL: Fedora Electronic Lab Design, Simulate and Program electronics. But there are a few things I would like to point out. # 1: Do you really need a .desktop patch because when I built qtdmm on my system, the existing .desktop in the source worked fine with the desktop- file-install in the %install section. Please check it and if the patch is not required, please remove it. # 2: Why is the srpm has packager name in its name. How are you building it? Your spec file does not show any packager tag and when I used it to build on my system, there was no packager name in the srpm name. Please make sure that you are using the correct spec file. Also, please abide by the Fedora package naming guidelines. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/NamingGuidelines # 3: Increase the release number every time you make some changes after a review. That will help track the changes easily. # 4: By separating blocks with an empty line what Chitlesh meant was that you should seperate the various logical blocks like the 'Name, Version, Release, Summary' and 'License,URL,Source0' etc. Also it might be a good practice to keep the various tags in vertical alignment. Use tab for this. I have reformatted your latest spec file for your understanding. I am uploading it here as an attachment. https://fedorahosted.org/fedora- electronic-lab/attachment/ticket/23/qtdmm.5.spec Keep up the good work. Also the spec file is almost ready. These spins provide different flavours of Fedora 11 targeting specific users and applications. The fourth consecutive release of Fedora Electronic Lab is part of those spins, offering the best hardware design and simulation experience with opensource EDA software. Fedora Electronic Lab 11 Leonidas provides a vibrant environment for designing and simulating ASIC design and embedded design. The opensource EDA solutions are composed to satify high-end mixed-signal hardware design flows from design specification to final project handoff. This release comprises Perl modules to facilitate both design, HDL code generation and brings additional support for Engineering Change Order (ECO). After post chip fabrication, evaluation boards of those chips can also be designed. Advantages * Deployable in both development and production environments. * No kernel patches are required, making it easy to deploy and use. * No licenses required and it is free. Key Highlights Existing RPM packages were updated improve design experience in terms of development time and debugging. The key highlights of the major development items puts the quality barrier higher than the previous releases: * Perl modules to extend vhdl and verilog support. These Perl modules together with gtkwave improves chip testing support. * Perl parsers for VHDL, Verilog and SystemC. * Introduced collaborative development solutions. * Introduction of Verilog-AMS modeling into ngspice. * Improved VHDL debugging support with gcov. * Improved support for re-usable HDL packages as IP core. * Improved PLI support on both iverilog and ghdl * Introduction of C-based methodologies for HDL testbenches and models. * Improved co-simulation based hardware design. * Introduction of design tools for DSP design flow. Eclipse, the comprehensive Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for embedded systems is also part of the collection. This IDE is included for the first time on the Livedvd (but available since a long time on Fedora repositories) entails plugins for C++, Perl and Version Control systems (CVS,GIT,SVN). These plugins has been filed for package review. * eclipse-eclox - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506429 * eclipse-texlipse - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506431 * eclipse-veditor - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505017 These plugins will help digital IC designers/FPGA designers develop Verilog/VHDL code on eclipse. veditor, the eclipse plugin for HDL provides a realtime error and warnings notification of typos, missing signals, unnecessary signals etc.. If the vhdl code entails doxygen style comments, a pdf can be autogenerated and used either during internal meetings or sent to the client. Since the pdf is generated from latex, the texlipse plugin will provide some additional page layout formatting and easy pdf creation. One thing which impresses me is that the pdf creation is now only Ctrl-S, rather than a manual click like one would do on kile. That said, if these plugins enter fedora repostories, I will remove kile from the FEL livedvd. Other additional plugin worth talking are epic for perl, egit for git and subclipse (and are yum-able). Hence if your perl scripts well can be properly maintained along side with your HDL code. With either cvs,git or svn you can share, distribute and manage your hdl code and scripts for digital designed. These eclipse plugins will ease the entrace of a new feature for F-12 : Collaborative Code review. I will talk about it later on. The following screenshot will give you an idea what I want to achieve. http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/images/EDA-eclipse.png If you are interested in testing, you can find the - RPMS : http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/eclipse/ - SRPMS : http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/RPMS/ Kind regards Chitlesh -- Chitlesh GOORAH Fedora Electronic Lab Architect http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/FEL From chitlesh.goorah at gmail.com Wed Jun 17 12:46:41 2009 From: chitlesh.goorah at gmail.com (Chitlesh GOORAH) Date: Wed, 17 Jun 2009 14:46:41 +0200 Subject: [Fedora-electronic-lab] Fwd: gEDA-user: Invitation: Linux Fund/gEDA party at OSCON in San Jose In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <50baabb30906170546w21cc9ff8x9f7c49680e95742f@mail.gmail.com> Hello there, If you are a gEDA/gaf user or a FEL user, I think you may find the following interesting ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Stuart Brorson Date: Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 1:00 PM Subject: gEDA-user: Invitation: Linux Fund/gEDA party at OSCON in San Jose To: gEDA user mailing list Hi -- Just a quick note. ?As part of the open-source conference OSCON, Linux Fund has invited developers and users of the gEDA Toolset to a party! ?The party details are here: http://www.linuxfund.org/press/anniversary/ As you probably know, Linux Fund has established a project to gather donations so that various usability improvements may be built into gEDA/PCB. ?This is a high-profile project which we hope will pave the way to improving uptake of gEDA with all users, but particularly amongst newbies. I believe a few invitations to the LF party were already sent privately to folks who have contributed both to LF and to PCB and are in the Silicon Valley area. ?Thank you to those contributors! It would be nice to see other gEDA fellow travelers go to the party. ?The event is in San Jose from July 20 -- 24. ?You'll have the chance to meet other gEDA users, as well as be exposed to a larger F/OSS ecosystem. Details about OSCON are here: http://en.oreilly.com/oscon2009 FWIW, I'm not going since it's 3000 miles away from me. :-( ? But if you're a Silicon Valley local (or will be there for some reason), and are interested in attending, drop me an e-mail (sdb (AT) cloud9 (DOT) net) and I'll put you in touch with the relevant people. Besides the Layout Module Generator Environment MGEN, it also includes the PARIS layout editor and accompanying utilities such as the hierarchical comparison tool LAYDI and the boolean operation server MERGED (released to use with GPL by AISS, now PDF-Solutions). The kernel of the MGEN system consists of a library containing a set of fundamental functions for creation and manipulation of geometric objects and cells. Based on these functions is a set of higher level functions for the synthesis of more complex structures. MGEN programs can communicate with other tools in different standard interface formats. PARIS is a technology-independent hierarchical layout editor which can make use of the MGEN functions, and supports both full-custom and cell- oriented IC design. It includes a (Korn-shell-derived) command language.
