[Fedora-ia64-list] R: SPARC, IA64 Ports Of Ubuntu Face Decommissioning

Hmm ... I would have strongly preferred an open platform/distro that was
a bit more friendly to non-free components.

That's something of a disappointment ... I've expressed a strong
willingness to learn the Ubuntu kernel build process with LaMont and be
a resource for this Ubuntu project ... even to the point of providing
LaMont the machine for development testing. When I talked with him last
week, there still seemed a path to make it happen.

Will have to see what his view is, or if that was just a defacto decision.

John

He has an older HP server that has been supporting the effort for a while now. As soon as Ubuntu is stable on my Intel/Dell SR870 boxes, I will be moving all my desktops, servers and clusters over to Ubuntu after running Redhat/Fedora for 15 years.

He believes that if we clean up some package issues, and kernel module issues, that we can keep IA64 on the release path for Ubuntu. I will provide LaMont testing help as I have time, and kernel help as I come up to speed.
