I installed Fedora -9. My Laptop is having Wireless Lan and no Lan Cable can be connected. I am a BSNL-Dataone Broadband user. The ADSL Modem (MT882 - Huawei Technologies Ltd) do not have provision for WLAN. So only alternative is USB connection. The Driver supplied is old one and cannot be configured for Fedora. I have searched so many community websites and find that so many suffers like me. After a serious search I got the Drivers for (MT882 )from Calcutta Telephones Dataone site and I have Zipped them and do attach herewith. If any of our expert community member takes the pain to create an RPM PACKAGE - then new bees of Fedora in India may get benefitted - since BSNL is the single largest ISP providing BroadBand facility in India. An effort in this regard would be a good community service to inspire new bees to Fedora World. -- Kamalendu Chakrabarty Qr No: C/05, PTS, NTPC Ltd, PO: Deepsikha Dist: Angul Orissa Pin: 759147 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... That tarball contains a couple of RPMs and a tarball too, which do not look like a driver to me. I think you are talking about the CDCEther.[ch] files in there. > If any of our expert community member takes the pain to create an RPM > PACKAGE - then new bees of Fedora in India may get benefitted - since > BSNL is the single largest ISP providing BroadBand facility in India. > > An effort in this regard would be a good community service to inspire > new bees to Fedora World. Did you find out why these drivers are not in the upstream Linux kernel? That way they will be available to all the distributions and not only Fedora. Basically you will need to configure the MT882 as a router or use pppoe! It is also not very difficult to put in a ethernet card in a laptop. Best A. Mani -- A. Mani Member, Cal. Math. The Fedora Project is proud to announce the availability of the Fedora 10 Preview Release. The Fedora 10 Preview Release is our last pre-release offering before we let everyone taste the goods for real. https://fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease Doesn't it smell yummy? We know you can't resist, and we don't want you to. We want everyone in the Fedora community to take an early sample and tell us what you find. The recipe is pretty good, but now is the time to make it perfect. Ingredients include: * Faster boot using Plymouth * Wireless connection sharing * Better printing * Enhanced software update and maintenance, from RPM 4.6 to PackageKit * Virtualization storage * SecTool, security audit and intrusion detection system * Glitch free audio using timer-based scheduling And, since this is Fedora, we don't have anything to hide. Take a peek at what is in the not-so-secret sauce by looking at our Release Notes in the Fedora Project wiki. We use 100% pure free and open source software here, none of that high-fructose proprietary stuff. http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes Most of you should get a very tasty treat, but some of you might experience a little bitterness. Don't fret - all is not lost - there is still time to improve the recipe before we share it with the world. Head over to the Fedora Bugzilla (http://bugzilla.redhat.com) and let us know what offended your palate. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_file_a_bug_report File bugs here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Fedora&version=rawhide If you'd like to interact with the chefs more directly, join the live staff in the kitchen by coming to #fedora-qa on irc.freenode.net, or leave a message on the corkboard by the back door: http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-test-list Ready to get your free preview sample? Go ahead and swipe one straight from the oven - we don't mind. Put on your favorite heat resistant BitTorrent mitt and grab one of the following goodies. Take as many as you like. Thanks for tasting! https://fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease P.S. Please remember that as we run a public mirror system, the mirrors for Fedora 10 Preview will not all be ready at this time, and may become overloaded as the day goes on. To that end, we (mostly Jon and me, with some help from other desktop team members) have started to put some of our ideas for how to improve the desktop experience into written form. You can find this material here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Desktop/Whiteboards Currently this is just a pretty unsorted mixture of wild ideas, implementation details and concrete plans, and a lot of them are missing details, user stories and use cases. Don't misunderstand it as 'the plan for the F11 desktop'. But I hope that it is filled out enough to provide some idea in what direction we would like to move the desktop. Over the next weeks, we'll turn the things that we are going to tackle for F11 into regular feature pages. Comments and feedback welcome, either on this list or in the discussion tabs. The pertinent fact is that they have never used Linux on the Desktop and here they are completely at ease with it! Linux is supposed to be tough! Linux on the Desktop is "Orrey baba!" (a Bengali expression that basically says "Wow! that's not my cup of tea!")? yet all of my experiences from the last 6 years of working with people on the ground has been otherwise, this is the latest case in point. Almost all first-time users adapt to Linux pretty fast. It's the so called "computer literate" that have problems galore. For what it's worth, it was their fifth day on a computer. cheers, -indra -- Regards, Susmit. ============================================= ssh 0x86DD170A http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/user:susmit ============================================= From sanjay.ankur at gmail.com Sun Nov 9 18:22:07 2008 From: sanjay.ankur at gmail.com (ankur sinha) Date: Sun, 9 Nov 2008 23:52:07 +0530 Subject: [fedora-india] FUDCon/FOSS.IN In-Reply-To: <4916AD48.706@fedoraproject.org> References: <5d5765800811082202r139d90aal84878970eda0f6c@mail.gmail.com> <49167DD2.8090306@fedoraproject.org> <5d5765800811090046n4e20006u6ae9673e653c4f23@mail.gmail.com> <4916AD48.706@fedoraproject.org> Message-ID: <5d5765800811091022j6dd428bdub21ba5654229dd95@mail.gmail.com> On Sun, Nov 9, 2008 at 2:58 PM, Rahul Sundaram wrote: > ankur sinha wrote: > > hi, >> No, I am going to be in Manipal on the 28th.. Message-ID: Hi, Has what gets done in FUDcon got fixed? If it is not concrete yet, I have something in mind. 1. I am recently working on a mirror on a HDD thing, which is a external HDD, containing the latest Fedora relase and synchronised regularly. 2. The concept is you can take it with you, plug in to any computer (for the time being plug in to a fedora installation) of a LAN, and turn that computer into a local mirror for the LAN. 3. Also we should have a script which takes the server ip as an argument and makes rpm containing the repo file for local mirror (as livna rpm) on the run for client machines. This way we can have everything at our disposal, which would be great way to take a whole fedora mirror to any event, or to set up a permanent mirror anywhere. I am onto the scripts for a few days, and would like to get ideas and workouts and improvements at FUDcon. I shall have the proof of concept scripts by then. So what I am proposing for FUDcon from my part is, a small workshop on mirroring (may be 20 mins to 30 mins, mirroring does not take more than that :) along with brainstorming/scripting etc for mirror-out-of-a-box solution. What do you say? Doable? I had recently made a blog post on that note as well. Today, I would like to share the news that this is a FUDCon that is not meant to be. Since yesterday evening, certain significant points of disagreement have come up between the teams working towards FUDCon and FOSS.IN. As such, in light of those issues, it is best that the FUDCon is not gone through with at FOSS.IN I will be getting in touch with the speakers who travel costs have been sponsored in part or full by The Fedora Project. FOSS.IN is a leading event and we, at The Fedora Project, wish the event and the team working tirelessly behind the scenes all the best and success they so much deserve. There are positives to everything and the run up to the FUDCon has brought a small number of wonderful members from the Fedora Community closer together. They have been planning, coordinating, scheduling and working like a well oiled machine. That is a great find. And, we will continue that momentum and harmony. We have come a long way since The Fedora Project Day at FOSS.IN last year, and, though we have ambitious dreams for The Fedora Project this year (and the coming year), we have a fantastic set of people who will be making that happen. And, since it is always best to end with a smile - here's something to keep you busy : Susmit Shannigrahi is now the proud owner of the largest set of rare FUDCon swag. We have started getting volunteers for the event. Once the sessions and volunteers are finalised, I will prepare the schedule in accordance with every volunteer's availability and announce it on lists. About the swag, (1) 4-5 T-shirts (2) 150-200 stickers (3) CD/DVD -- This, I think I can arrange from Gora and I also have some. So you may avoid this. Just send me 4-5 F10 DVD/CD. that's it. (4) Some posters if they are printed. :) Am I missing anything crucial that "should" be there? I hope its not too much to ask for. :-). When do you plan to send it. I will give you my mailing address then. That the CCU Ambassadors have an on-site meeting. I'll try and see if one for the PNQ folks can be arranged quickly enough. Anybody know what is going on ? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kurian John Date: 2008/11/28 Subject: [ilug-tvm] ls -h not working on EL5 / CentOS 5 To: ilug-tvm at googlegroups.com Hey everyone, One of my friends is facing a serious problem in Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 and CentOS 5. When he tries to list files in a directory with the ls command, he gets an error like this: [root at vasant ~]# ls -h ls: invalid option -- h Try `ls --help' for more information. [root at vasant ~]# ll -h ls: invalid option -- h Try `ls --help' for more information. The ls command was working fine when he first installed both OSs. When he noticed this issue, he checked the version of ls, and got this: [root at vasant ~]# ls --version ls - GNU fileutils-3.13 [root at vasant ~]# This is very strange, because the latest version of GNU fileutils was released around 2003, and it was merged into GNU coreutils by 2003. So, it seems that somehow his coreutils package was replaced by an outdated fileutils package. He asked this question on LinuxQuestions.org and someone suggested to check for rootkits (See link below). http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/facing-a-problem-with-ls-command.-686547/ Has anybody here experienced any similar problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
