It used to be, that the problem, if it appeared started with the login dialog, and would end when I restart, but since a little while it also happens sometimes when I want to unlock the screen - and is usually solved when I lock and unlock the screen again. Any idea? Thanks! What you need to do is down load a live distro or the cd version of Gparted, boot up with it and make some space on the hard drive. If you really want m$ xp and Fedora then install xp first then install Fedora. By the way FC3 is a bit out of date why not FC 6 or F7?. Gnome? Or on the console? Both KDE and Gnome have their own keyboard managers which are responsible for the layouts. If you expect those troubles on the console, use system-config-keyboard to change the keyboard layout and deactivate the dead keys. -- Bye, Adalbert monitor resolution too high From biggles58 at sbcglobal.net Thu Aug 16 03:54:05 2007 From: biggles58 at sbcglobal.net (Al Thompson) Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2007 20:54:05 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Fw: Problem with keyboard while typing some characters. Use the packages in the repo at http://pjones.fedorapeople.org/xorg-x11-drv-ati/ , and add the following to the "Device" sections of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf : Option "LocalTextures" "off" You may also need to add: Option "GARTSize" "64" or Option "GARTSize" "128" This should get you going for now, but the change isn't what's going to be the final fix in upstream Xorg, so you'll probably want to add "Exclude: xorg-x11-drv-ati" to your yum configuration until the real fix is ready. -- Peter From pjones at redhat.com Mon Aug 20 18:44:42 2007 From: pjones at redhat.com (Peter Jones) Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2007 14:44:42 -0400 Subject: Compiz problem on ThinkPad R50 + ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 In-Reply-To: <46C9DD70.5020400@redhat.com> References: <381059.98559.qm@web53103.mail.re2.yahoo.com> <46C9DD70.5020400@redhat.com> Message-ID: <46C9E11A.9030400@redhat.com> Peter Jones wrote: > You may also need to add: > > Option "GARTSize" "64" Actually, "32" seems to work for me. -- Peter From mike.cohler at gmail.com Sat Aug 25 18:15:05 2007 From: mike.cohler at gmail.com (Mike C) Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2007 18:15:05 +0000 (UTC) Subject: iwl3945 - any hints with F7? I use it for a few months on my Dell D420 Fedora 7 box which uses this driver and firmware. Works out of the box with no problems. However I have heard some reports of this not working reliably for others. You have the alternative of using the older driver with a proprietary daemon. You would have to get it from another repository however. Thanks Rahul - I have been using the older driver with proprietary daemon in FC6 for quite a while and it has been great. When the 2.6.22 kernel came in for FC6 I did manage to get the new driver going but only by leaving the interface definition with "onboot=no" and adding a line to rc.local to start the interface. I also had to blacklist iwl3945 to get it working with this method which is not satisfactory - it is quite possible that other parts of the system are more up to date in F7 and that it will work with the Samsung hardware in this machine - maybe I will just have to bite the bullet and try! However it is my wife's machine and she relies on it just working on bootup - so I had better be sure it works before taking it offline for install! I ended up switching to the old > ipw3945 driver. Me too. With iwlwifi, I've never managed even to activate wifi card ("wifi" LED remains off all the time). Last time I've tried was kernel-2.6.22.1-41.fc7 However, I'll try the brand new kernel from updates. -- Jaroslaw Gorny -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... The wifi LED didn't light up. 2. I couldn't reliably associate with open networks, though that seemed to be a NetworkManager+iwl3945 problem. I haven't checked recently, but I think 2. has improved. Anyway repo you are looking for is atrpms and freshrpms You need to match the kernel rev with the drivers you need. For example, this is what I have installed: ipw2100-firmware.noarch 1.3-8 installed ipw2200-firmware.noarch 3.0-9.at installed ipw3945-kmdl-2.6.22.4-65.fc7.i686 1.2.0-18.4.fc7 installed ipw3945-ucode.noarch 1.14.2-4.at installed ipw3945d.i386 1.7.22-4.fc7.rf installed I run Linux 2.6.22.4-65.fc7 I have downloaded: ipw3945-kmdl-2.6.22.4-65.fc7PAE.i686 1.2.0-18.4.fc7 atrpms ipw3945-firmware.noarch 1.14.2-1 freshrpms ipw3945d.i386 is not kernel dependent I believe. ...and so on, just make sure the driver matches you kernel. Another trick, you will also be prompted by yum to download the ieee80211-kmdl. Now make SURE you match not only the kernel rev of your system, but also .x86 with rest of your ipw packages. atrpms once let me install the ipw in .i686 and installed the ieee in .i586, needless to say it did not work. P.S. I do not think you need ipw2100/2200 firmware, but I run them, and can not remember how they got there. --sk -----Original Message----- From: fedora-laptop-list-bounces at redhat.com [mailto:fedora-laptop-list-bounces at redhat.com] On Behalf Of Ian Malone Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 5:51 PM To: fedora-laptop-list at redhat.com Subject: Re: iwl3945 - any hints with F7? Until about a month ago (while I was still using FC6), I had no problems using my Apple AirPort card. After installing a kernel update, it stopped working. I used bcm43xx-fwcutter and reinstalled the AppleAirPort2 driver. When I dmesg, I get the error message: ERROR: YOUR FIRMWARE IS TOO OLD. Firmware from binary drivers older than version 4.x is unsupported. You must upgrade your firmware files. So I searched through bugzilla and found bug: 240820 which was marked as Closed/RAWHIDE. The fix was to d/l the wl_apsta.o driver and use bcm43xx-fwcutter on it. I did so. Failed with following msg: broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod/wl_apsta.o Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by bcm43xx-fwcutter. This file has an unknown MD5sum 9207bc565c2fc9fa1591f6c7911d3fc0. I've tried every other driver listed in the man pages or the README and I get either FIRMWARE TOO OLD or unknown MD5sum. Since I'd been thinking of upgrading to F7 anyway, I waited until the DVD came in and I upgraded. No luck. Same exact problems. They rolled out a new release w/o fixing the problems of the old one. Since PCMCIA support has not worked since FC6, this pretty much makes my laptop a brick. What use is a laptop w/o wireless? I noticed on your list that someone else asked about PCMCIA support but was never answered. I've used Linux, specifically Redhat/Fedora since Redhat 4.0. I was an actual customer who bought the discs, since I didn't have the ability to d/l them, so you can image how disappointed I am at how the quality of the Linux product has degraded over time. Unless someone, somewhere knows how to fix this problem, I'm going to have to blow away the Linux partition and say good-bye after 10 years. I'll have to learn how to use OS X. *sigh* BTW, I'm NOT a guru. I've been using Linux because it was so EASY to use. I rarely even open the terminal - until the last year anyway. So if anyone does have a fix, please keep it simple. Many thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
