I have a Compaq Evo N800w mobile workstation (Iaptop) with three keys at the upper left of the keyboard. They are for Internet, E-mail and Search. I can't get a scancode from any of them. There is a fourth button over on the right with a music note symbol on it that does give a scancode and I can associate that with the media player in Linux, but the other three just come up blank. There is a program you have to download from HP in order to get them to work in Windows. I've tried several programs like keyTouch and linEAK without success. Any ideas? If not, what other options do I have? Want the whole story? Being confused by a number of forum posts out on the internet, I dared to install laptop-mode-tools-x.y.rpm from the laptop mode tools' homepage. After installation, I noticed that FC 10 obviously has laptop mode tools already integrated - there was a folder /etc/laptop-mode with timestamps of "some time ago". One fresh subfolder /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d had a timestamp some seconds ago, this obviously had been created by installation of the RPM from the LM tools homepage. Silly me simply uninstalled the LM RPM. With it, the whole folder /etc/laptop-mode went to nirvana(tm)... :-( Hints: - From sundaram at fedoraproject.org Fri May 15 00:59:17 2009 From: sundaram at fedoraproject.org (Rahul Sundaram) Date: Fri, 15 May 2009 06:29:17 +0530 Subject: Q: which package contains laptop mode tools? What do you mean by update the system, are you updating your kernel or updating your KDE/Gnome ? Can you be more specific ? Unless and until you build and update the kernel there shouldnt be a need for installing nvidia again and again as nvidia is a kernel module and its dependent on the kernel version. I don't know in what country you are located but IBM has a good parts service in many countries, where you can directly order the part (given that you now it unique FRE number), in my experience usually even cheaper then shops etc. sell it for. -- -- Jos Vos -- X/OS Experts in Open Systems BV | Phone: +31 20 6938364 -- Amsterdam, The Netherlands | Fax: +31 20 6948204 From thomasdodd at bellsouth.net Sat May 16 14:31:32 2009 From: thomasdodd at bellsouth.net (Thomas Dodd) Date: Sat, 16 May 2009 09:31:32 -0500 Subject: IBM parts suggestions? I have only ever been able to turn adapters on or off according to my requirements. To the best of my knowledge your connections are either on or off. Wireless will attempt to connect to the nearest station and your wired interface will sit there until a cable is plugged in. However I could be wrong I'm sure some one will put me right here. There are other session network managers might one these be more suitable? Knetwork Manager does quite a good job at managing my connections. As for suspend I have never successfully managed to get this to work reliably. I know for a fact that it can switch of devices (LAN cards and such) but when the time comes to resume the devices may not be switched back on again. This is common in Windows as well as Linux. It's a long standing problem and has been around since it was invented.
