I have the same problem. But it's my USB keyboard and mouse that don't
work. It's because the modules were not included in my 2.6 RPM.<br>
Are you building from source? Also the names of these devices have
changed which will mess up your old init scripts.<br>

curious. i've been running the pre-2.6 kernels for some time now,
but i download directly from <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.kernel.org">www.kernel.org</a>. on my inspiron 8100,
both my touchpad and USB logitech optical mouse work just fine.
what would you like me to examine?
