For future reference, there's a great script on

which sets up many/select yum repositories in your yum.conf files for
you. (it also enables/disables repositories when you run it, so it's
very easy to manage your yum conf file!)<br>

search for "set up yum" and you'll find it!<br>

Thanks for the clue. Following it, I found the problem in the nic
config: default gateway address was wrong. Odd that I could talk inside
my Linksys firewall, but not outside. I would have expected both fail
with this error. Yum is fine now.
