I had to go through about 4 or 5 restarts before everything was upgraded when I first did it but I figured that was fine since all I had to do was click install then continue to actually get to browsing. The restarts were also gradual, they didn't ask that you to restart before browsing to get the next set of updates. It shouldn't be a problem doing the upgrade.
