Hi, booting without quiet and some other grub boot options makes no differences. The behaviour is the same. I even got some problems with the initrd file. A line with funny characters is shown and only after I've started mkinitrd in rescue mode the lines are gone. Perhaps it's an problem with my SATA hard disc and grub coming with the standard kernel. The newest updated kernel doesn't help. As for the Shuttle G2 3200 (is that yours?) that's an Intel 945G Chipset, which is the same chipset as the Optiplex GX620. lspci to check. I was having a problem similar to your with the xen kernel, which seems fixed with the recent 'nash' update so sorry I can't help explain why your non-xen kernel is giving you problems. Can you perhaps take the 'quiet' off your grub boot string and get some more info?
