OK so part of the problem was that I had files from the nVidia installer lying around from before there were Livna RPMs available for that 169.04 version. My card didn't work with any older versions, so I used the install script when it came out, because I didn't have a fully functional machine without those drivers. That's an object lesson in why it's not a good idea to mix the script installer and RPMs. I think I have that cleaned up now (though it's hard to tell for sure without a manifest of all the files installed by the script). But when I start the new googleearth as a normal user, I still don't see the globe or the controls. It works fine if I start it as root. The SEtroublesooter doesn't complain, either. Any idea what's up with that?
