such a line was indeed missing. I've added it and now it works again,
thanks a lot!

Why it was missing I'm not sure - the most likely explanation is that I
made a mistake when merging /etc/sysconfig/dirsrv.rpmnew changes
into /etc/sysconfig/dirsrv.
