It was on purpose - rpm has macro _initrddir defined as
%{_sysconfdir}/rc.d/init.d so I was trying to model that after the RPM
macro.

But you are right, that for anyone not familiar with RPM macros, this is
confusing. So +1 to this change, we just also need to adjust specfile
and Makefile.in (patch attached).
