Hi,
Now that I'm back 'on the list' so to speak, I will try again to post my
idea, in shortened form.
In keeping with the K12 feel, how about...
K12 Server, built on <distro> Linux
We can have multiple versions, which I an Terrell discussed prior to
someone else suggesting it on the list. I suggested Terminal Server, (in
keeping with the original focus of K12LTSP), Advanced Server, combining
LDAP and Samba, and if possible, Netware support. Enterprise Server would
offer clustering, more robust data support, high availability, failover.
Enterprise would be for businesses and school districts deploying a lot of
K12LTSP servers (like here at BKB, where each school has a K12LTSP
server), and multiple labs, with plans to use open source software for
every aspect of the school business (i.e., student schedule, report cards,
student tracking)
Since K12LTSP can be built on any flavor of Linux, I didn't feel the need
to pin it to Red Hat, although they have a very reputable distro. I have
heard rumors of LTSP running on Mandrake, SuSE, and Debian. If we could
raise enough capital, the techies among us (like me) can build the turnkey
servers and ship preconfigured systems.
