My guess is that you're using a 20 GB ide drive. If so, that is the
cause of your slow down. When more than 10 clients login, there are too
many read/writes to /home for an ide drive to deal with.
Move /home to a scsi drive and you'll see an immediate speedup.
I'm also concerned that 1GB of ram is not enough for 30 machines. When
everyone is logged in run top and see how much free memory there is. If
you are using swap space, that just makes the hard drive problem worse.
Add memory and move /home to a scsi drive.
