Re: [K12OSN] Upgrade to OO.org 1.1 revisited

Howdy,

Looks to me like you need to know two things

1: How to upgrage to OOo 1.1
2: Does OOo 1.1 do 'better' with some Word docs.

You can install 1.1 on a Windows machine and test to find out about #2.

I did not install OOo when I loaded k12ltsp and then installed OOo from their web site to make me feel more comfortable with getting the latest OOo. Not a good solution. :-( Let us know if you come up with something a bit easier.

I have read the earlier thread on upgrading to OOo 1.1, and still have no idea how to correcly upgrade my 3.1 K12 install to OOo1.1. I downloaded the openoffice-1.1.0-4.i386.rpm with the i18n and libs rpm's as well, but they fail with dependencies. I downloaded the OO.org install, but it fails to upgrade with an error stating the installed language is different. If I delete the .openoffice directory in /root, then this install wants to proceed, but what is then the correct install directory so that all the existing settings for users are retained? Very confused and frustrated at this point. I am working on a test system, but didn't want to have to rebuild it just to get this done.

Should I just use rpm -e and delete the 1.01 installation and only use the OO.org versions in the future? Or can someone please clue me in on how 1.01 was installed and , treat me stupid, walk me through the upgrade?

1.1 supposedly has better import compatibility with MS Office. I need to check/prove this with a couple of the teachers' Word docs, or plan on installing a lot of MS Office products.

Bottom line: I do not know how Oo.o was installed, and have no idea how to upgrade. I know it is trivial, after the first time.

Thanks,
Dave Hopkins
