I'm trying to get sound working on a client. I'm using a SB16 ISA card (model CT4170) . Using the default configuration (SMODULE_01 = sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1) it seems to detect the card OK and I get the message "SB 4.16 detected OK (220) - accepting connections on port 16001" however sound does not seem to work. I tried another configuration that I had seen:
SMODULE_01 = soundcore SMODULE_02 = uart401 SMODULE_03 = sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1
The results are the same. Obviously I don't know what I'm doing but I couldn't find any relevant information on how to configure this section. I tried the "sound debug" section of the wiki and that seems to work (e.g. telnet to the port).
Any ideas on how to configure for this particular sound card? I'm also open to purchasing a new card if I know I can find a configuration that works.
TIA, Sean
If at all possible, install a PCI sound card.
A decent Creative Labs PCI sound card goes for $10 at the computer shop next to my work. I wouldn't be shocked if you could find one for less.
Common PCI devices are auto-detected and configured. They "just work"
ISA cards, especially ISA sound cards, often take significant black magic to work. Avoid ISA whenever and whereever possible.
