[K12OSN] libgd.so.1.8

I am trying to load ntop on my Redhat 9 box.  I get an error message
that says the packages libgd.so.1.8 and libgdome.so.0 are needed.  I
searched and found a package that seemed to contain the two libraries-
gd-1.8.4-11.i386.rpm and gd-2.0.23.tar.gz.  When I install those
packages and try ntop, I get the same error message.
 
Can anyone help me out?
