[K12OSN] NIS...problem?

Uhm, guys? I just read the ypserv/ypbind man pages. It tells me
that I can't run an NIS server AND a client on the same machine.
...I've been running it like that for several years!
Now I have a problem...do I *really* need to move the NIS server
someplace else, or is this something K12LTSP for which there's a
workaround? Sound quit...passwords are expiring, and I can only change
them with NIS turned off...
Anyone done this stuff recently?
