I'm not a teacher, but my son has been using Gcompris
since he was 2 years old.  He started with the
computer-based activities that teach basic things like
how to use the mouse.  For instance, there's a game
where you move the mouse pointer over "tiles" in order
to uncover a picture (usually some kind of animal).
