Also, try /sbin/ifconfig to see if you have any errors comming from your nics. The other thing I could ask is are your clients using older video cards which were better supported with Xfree86 as compared to the newer Xorg Maybe all your clients are using VESA now and that is making a difference. k12ltsp 5.0 uses ltsp 4.2 which I think dropped Xfree86 support (accel) of older video cards. Now, I am at wits end. Teachers/staff/anyone connecting to the system are becoming very very upset, to the point that they are asking for Windows and desktop systems (which is a huge change in attitude from the prior years). Because of state proxy setups, I can't use IRC, so I am left with email. Again, this is alot of frustration and I am sure the solution will be simple. I am not seeing it.
