  i'm partway thru writing an explanation of what happens during
installation, from the boot floppy thru the ram disk, init, 
loader and into anaconda.  currently, it's up to where anaconda
is finally invoked, so it's not finished, but if anyone wants
a copy, i'm always interested in feedback.  email offline.
