I have made a few runs building Packstack on it, not really happy with how any turned out, and really need to work with TripleO since that's what I'd be supporting. I have a baremetal system with RHEL 7.4beta on it, 128G memory and 32 cpu/cores, so it should be able to handle a decent training configuration. Is it even possible to do this on this system, or perhaps I should be creating a number of simple KVM/QEMU instances manually and building from there? Once it's done go to ~/.quickstart/ and run ssh -F ssh.config.ansible undercloud to login to the undercloud, you will find a stackrc for the undercloud api endpoints and a overcloudrc for the overcloud endpoints. Note you can only chose upstream releases, Newton, Ocata, Master (Pike without containers right now) Hope this helps - Justin On Tue, Aug 1, 2017 at 12:12 PM, James LaBarre wrote: > I am trying to set up a machine for learning TripleO on, but I'm still > confused on whether a single machine can be used for a practice > configuration. Message-ID: <2bcedd72-ab2f-cc65-684e-ff6a8baaceea@redhat.com> TL;DR: Be a mentor - http://rdoproject.org/contribute/mentors As discussed in a recent RDO community IRC meeting, it can be intimidating, when first joining a project, to ask questions in an IRC channel. Particularly if they're met with silence, because people aren't watching the channel, or are busy with other things. Additionally, when people are starting to contribute, as they are with our new EasyFix initiative ( http://rdoproject.org/easyfix ) it's great to know who to go to with questions on various topics. To this end, we've created a mentors list - http://rdoproject.org/contribute/mentors - where you can indicate that you're willing to answer questions on a particular topic. That way, someone can ping you directly with their questions on that topic, and know that they're going to get an expert. If you're willing to be one of those people, please add your name to a relevant category (or add a new category, if needed) by clicking the "Edit on Github" banner at the top right. Note that there's also an similar upstream effort - the OpenStack Upstream Institute - at https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/OpenStack_Upstream_Institute - if you're willing to do the same for the larger community. Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Hello, I have an RDO packstack Newton setup with 1 controller node and 4 compute nodes, all on VMs run by KVM. The cinder volume service is on the controller node as well. Periodically, the controller node reboots with no relevant message in /var/log/messages or in other log files. Any hints on troubleshooting this issue are appreciated. Thanks. -- Laurentiu Soica -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The implementation of this job is still up for debate, however I would like to make this a public conversation to get input from the community. CI Requirements: ( please feel free to add, change or correct ) * Latest RDO installed on latest GA or beta RHEL ( RHEL 7.4 in this case ) * The undercloud is *not* image based, but installed * The overcloud images are built via customer supported commands * The upstream ping test is used to validate * The default tempest parameters in oooq are used to validate By not using undercloud images, problems with the install will be more readily detected and obvious especially rpm dependency issues arise. On the same token by using customer facing commands to build the overcloud images we can be assured that any problems with images are legitimate failures. Using this design the entire workflow can be in one job and not rely on prerequisite image build steps. My suggested design is to follow the upstream design pattern shown below. If we use and ovb based job the upstream tripleo ovb periodic/promote jobs can be used as an example. This design pattern can also be used in libvirt using baseos_rhel_libvirt [7]. In the ovb case the undercloud is provisioned using openstack api's and the undercloud is installed [1-2]. A determination of whether or not overcloud images are required to be imported or built is made [3]. Images are either imported [4], or built [5] If the images are built they are done using customer facing commands [6] This design has not yet been executed on the internal CI systems so I am looking for input, changes or comments. Thank you!! This migration will give us higher performance for builds, and also tighter integration of the different components inside the RDO Cloud. The plan is outlined in [1], and it will involve a one-by-one migration of each of the workers. We are planning to start the migration on August 16. About the impact: - No new builds will happen while the worker repos are rsynced to the new server (that can be a few hours). Repos will always remain available via trunk.rdoproject.org. - The DNS entry for trunk-primary.rdoproject.org will be moved, we need to make sure jobs using it do not use the old IP address, and work fine after the migration. If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have a quick-and-dirty Python script that looks up the GitHub pull request IDs between Git tags and queries Bugzilla for these. This lets me know which BZs to use in any new RPM version bumps. https://github.com/ktdreyer/find-bzs I'm thinking about how to integrate this into "rdopkg new-version" so that it is seamless. Maybe something like this: "rdopkg new-version" -> determine if upstream is a GitHub project or another (not sure here) -> git log --merges -> Analyze the Github Pull request numbers from the Git log -> Search for those PRs in Bugzilla -> Assemble a list of rhbz numbers from those PRs -> Insert these rhbz numbers into %changelog >From what I've seen, the RH OSP team uses External Trackers extensively as well, although I'm not super familiar with the best way to tie all the data points together. Something like openstack.org Gerrit change IDs -> BZs? Or does it have to go through Launchpad? We could make rdopkg pick the right heuristic depending on the Git remote URL pattern. What do you think? - Ken From hamzy at us.ibm.com Thu Aug 10 14:36:25 2017 From: hamzy at us.ibm.com (Mark Hamzy) Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2017 09:36:25 -0500 Subject: [rdo-list] DLRN builder migration to the RDO Cloud on August 16 In-Reply-To: <1779504485.34050297.1502329065213.JavaMail.zimbra@redhat.com> References: <1717771087.34049305.1502328787187.JavaMail.zimbra@redhat.com> <1779504485.34050297.1502329065213.JavaMail.zimbra@redhat.com> Message-ID: rdo-list-bounces at redhat.com wrote on 08/09/2017 08:37:45 PM: > As discussed during the RDO meeting today, we want to migrate the > DLRN builder instance to the RDO Cloud next week. We have machines in CentOS CI now, so that should be possible. Though I thought DLRN was the repository that CI used, so that seems like we have a chicken/egg scenario if there is no DLRN repo that includes ppc64le? This is likely a dumb question because my understandings of the RDO bits and pieces and workflow are really limited. If there are docs that outline this, feel free to point me (and probably Mark and other newbies) to them. If not, could you explain briefly? josh From dms at redhat.com Fri Aug 11 18:42:02 2017 From: dms at redhat.com (David Moreau Simard) Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2017 14:42:02 -0400 Subject: [rdo-list] Reminder as CentOS 7.4 draws near with the upcoming Pike release Message-ID: Hi, Just a friendly reminder that CentOS 7.4 is knocking at our doors at about the same time as the upcoming Pike release. Content from CentOS 7.4 will start trickling down to the CentOS Continuous Release (CR) [1] repositories soon. We need to be on the look out for changes that might have an impact on the delivery of RDO. The ci.centos.org environment provides nodes with the CR repository enabled by default in order to get some testing feedback. We've also enabled the CR repository for virtual (WeIRDO) workloads that are ran from ci.centos.org in order to get us more feedback. This should hopefully allow us to catch problems as they arise in order to fix them in time for the release. The release of CentOS 7.3 was not exactly exciting and we documented the different things that impacted us [2]. I'll suggest we do the same thing for CentOS 7.4. If you see any issues that seem to stem from the release of 7.4, please document them on the following etherpad: https://review.rdoproject.org/etherpad/p/release-centos-7.4 Thanks ! That said, Newton is a bit old by OpenStack's standards, and it will be end-of-life in less than two months [1]. Do you have any plans to rebase to a later release? It might be a good idea to target Queens, now that its deployment cycle is about to start. Some of the suggestions for what could be written are here: https://review.rdoproject.org/etherpad/p/rdo-cloud-blog-series That has mostly not happened. If you're interested in blogging about one of the suggested topics (or anything else around RDO Cloud, really) I'd encourage you to pick one and go with it. On the other hand, if you'd like to cover one of these topics but really don't have the time, I would be glad to do any one of these interview format. We can schedule a 30-minute meeting, and I'll transcribe and write up what we talk about, so that you don't have to. If you're interested, please get in touch, and we'll set something up at your earliest convenience. --Rich -- Rich Bowen - rbowen at redhat.com RDO Community Liaison http://rdoproject.org @RDOCommunity From rlandy at redhat.com Wed Aug 23 20:29:11 2017 From: rlandy at redhat.com (Ronelle Landy) Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2017 16:29:11 -0400 Subject: [rdo-list] RDO-CI Scrum Weekly Scrum Recap Message-ID: Greetings All, Links to the RDO-CI team scrum etherpad [1] and recording [2] from this week's meeting are below. Which 'proxy' are you referring to in RDO cloud? I discussed a little yesterday with sshaidm [7]. The TL;DR version is, I'd love to delete the squid proxy that is running in tripleo-test-cloud-rh1, and not use it in RDOcloud. The replacement would be the mirror server running at mirror.regionone.tripleo-test-cloud-rh1.openstack.org and launch that in RDOcloud as mirror.regionone.rdocloud.rdoproject.org. Message-ID: Hi, At the the last few RDO meetings [1][2][3], we brought up that no one had stepped up to do the work to build and ship what ends up being stable TripleO containers for Pike. There was different mentions that we should bring this to the MLs but we never did, so here it is. TL;DR, Do we want stable TripleO containers ? Who's going to be building and shipping them ? Where ? >From my perspective, RDO is in kind of a weird spot: - Technically speaking, the RDO project and community provides packages for installers (such as TripleO) to consume - The container images are only consumable by the TripleO project - The tooling to build containers are included in Kolla and TripleO which are packaged by RDO - There has been resistance in TripleO to adopt containers that have been built by RDO during the Pike development cycle because TripleO should be the upstream - Upstream projects, such as TripleO and Kolla, are already producing and shipping containers derived from RDO to DockerHub and tarballs.openstack.org The definition of done for shipping RDO releases [4] includes successful testing coverage of different Packstack and TripleO scenarios, the same scenarios that continuously run throughout the development cycle. I'll concede that the current definition of done (strangely) doesn't include bits around packaging -- how packages are built and shipped. It probably should and maybe this should be part of the discussion. With my RDO community hat on, I can't help but feel that it's important to keep RDO as agnostic, neutral and open as possible. We have to be careful about any bias and direct or indirect special treatment RDO might be providing to TripleO. This ensures a fair and level playing field for other projects that are interested in either using/consuming RDO or want to be included in the packaging distribution. This is what makes it easier for RDO to "grow": not just in terms of packages and contributors but in mind and market share. RDO allows operators deploy their OpenStack clouds with vanilla packages for Red Hat based distributions, no matter their software, hardware, hypervisor, drivers, backends and installer preferences. Now, back with my TripleO hat on, someone has to do the work. If we want to build and ship containers to DockerHub, we can do that already and automatically through periodic builds. The role that we have been using to build containers in RDO supports pushing to any registry, including DockerHub. If we want to build and ship containers to the CentOS official registry, "registry.centos.org", it's more work [5]. The container pipeline runs from Jenkins and builds Dockerfiles out of pseudo dist-git repositories. We would need to: - Adapt the tooling that we have to generate only Dockerfiles (~trivial) - Push them out in an organized fashion - Explicitly define the dependency and build order of the containers (complicated) It's probably also worth asking if we want to be shipping stable containers at all ? Who will be the users of those stable containers ? The tooling to build containers is included in (stable) packages provided by RDO, we have packages for Kolla and TripleO. Users will already be pushing containers to the TripleO undercloud registry, perhaps they could be expected to build the containers as well ? Let's discuss and figure out the plan moving forward. RDO packages and working to move to containers: (We are currently running our own puppet infra and have something like a homegrown Triple0 (under-overcloud)) What I see us doing is building our own containers with Kolla putting as much of our own config in there except what needs to change at runtime. Runtime stuff are mostly passwords and things depending on the region. Some reasons for building our own containers: * we have some home grown code to put in the pipelines of various OpenStack components * makes for minimal configuration needed at deploy time if the container itself includes all settings A nice bonus I see is that we can deploy from source if ever needed with Kolla. Do note that we might not be a ?standard? user in many regards as we have the skillset and time to do these things by ourselves. Before moving RDO to CentOS Cloud SIG repos (where packages are signed with CentOS key), RPMs where signed with a new key per release and pushed to repos.fedorapeople.org. Which release are you using? RHEL6 can latest be Icehouse, archived at https://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/openstack/EOL/openstack-icehouse/epel-6/ You can find gpg keys by digging into rdo-release repo, EOL branches are removed, but there are old tags: https://github.com/rdo-infra/rdo-release/blob/icehouse-4.1/RPM-GPG-KEY-RDO-Icehouse And please do upgrade asap!
