This is a comment from Roland McGrath which I think makes a lot of sense:

  I'd say it makes a lot more sense to follow the example of SO_PASSCRED, 
  which is the UDP-supporting complement to SO_PEERCRED.  To complement 
  SO_PEERSEC in the same way, there should be SO_PASSSEC and SCM_SECURITY 
  or suchlike.
