Ah thanks, makes sense somehow, people have to connect to the redhat- satellite to get updates for the channels. Didnt want to use that functionality, just have a look at the interface and so on. So thats a suggestion for your install-script, it could i.e. look into the subject of the https-cert of the satellite and just continue if its the RHN-satellite. Theoretically, there shouldn't be anything preventing you from running a satellite in a domU, aside from perhaps possible issues caused by misconfigured network bridging scripts on the host. The reason we don't support the beta satellite running in a domU is simple -- we purposefully limited the scope of this release and did not specifically QA that scenario, therefore we can't guarantee it will work. :-) > > >> Could you send me your satellite certificate (via email)? Our post-script's size is currently 4500 characters. Is there any other mechanism to allow it? This is a known issue that is going to be fixed when rhn5 comes out. A possible workaround is to split up the 4.5k script into 3 scripts each under 2k characters. Or use %includes. Check kickstart-docs.txt provided by the anaconda rpm for more information about %include's /usr/share/doc/anaconda-10.1.1.46/kickstart-docs.txt (on rhel4). -- Matthew Davis, RHCE RHN Sustaining Engineer 919.754.4380 From KKukrer at collegeboard.org Wed Feb 7 15:33:01 2007 From: KKukrer at collegeboard.org (Kukrer, Koray) Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2007 10:33:01 -0500 Subject: [rhn-satellite-beta-users] Satellite Post scripts Message-ID: <3ED24201A685FA4DA04FEC99BFED652A0E7F7BCA@ecogenemld50.Org.Collegeboard.local> I hit to my first configuration issue with the new satellite. Due to the satellite postscript character restrictions, I ran the post script manually. In this execution, the post script didn't run correctly. During the troubleshooting, I found out that the up2date and rhncfg* RPMs were never installed. After further investigation, we found out that the channel does not provide these packages. Please advice if these packages are deprecated or accidentally left off. If they are deprecated, please let me know which packages are replacing those. This is a limitation of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 beta channels. We did not provide the Network Tools channel during the beta release. And yum has replaced up2date. So rhncfg* will be available when v5 gets released, but up2date will not. -- Matthew Davis, RHCE RHN Sustaining Engineer From J.Slee at open.ac.uk Tue Feb 20 17:18:38 2007 From: J.Slee at open.ac.uk (J.Slee) Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 17:18:38 -0000 Subject: [rhn-satellite-beta-users] Getting back to Satellite Configuration screen Message-ID: <58C8006B7AF92B4C84150CB963A1794A04B38ACF@SHERWOOD.open.ac.uk> I wonder if anyone can help me on this one. I never managed to get into the "Satellite Configuration - General Configuration" pages after setting up my administrator account. The problem was that I didn't get the appropriate button to click on when viewing the Web interface. This I believe was a result of using IE 7... Even now in IE 7 the red menu bar is collapsed into a thin red line so none of the options are visible. Can I get back to this stage , the option doesn't seem to available on the Your RHN page since I have logged out of the web browser and the machine has been rebooted. I am now using Firefox from another Linux host for administration which works but it is worth noting that there are problems for all IE 7 users. Jamie
