From sclewis at redhat.com Wed Oct 1 21:30:00 2014 From: sclewis at redhat.com (Scott Lewis) Date: Wed, 1 Oct 2014 17:30:00 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [rhos-list] RHEL-OSP-5 and the installer have been updated! Message-ID: <329364618.4667065.1412195044561.JavaMail.zimbra@redhat.com> Summary: The Red Hat OpenStack team is pleased to announce an update to both variants of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform version 5.0 and the installer. Details: This is the fourth release for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform version 5, on RHEL-7 (RHEL-7-OSP-5), the third release on RHEL-6 (RHEL-6-OSP-5), and the third release for the RHEL-OSP installer. In total, this release contains over 400 enhancements, bugfixes, documentation changes, and security updates to Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, and is based on the upstream OpenStack Icehouse stable release 2014.1.2 [1]. This release provides the Packstack Installer for proofs of concept installs on either RHEL-6 or RHEL-7, and the installer, for more complex installations using a wizard-based installer. Content can continue to be accessed via the Red Hat Content Delivery Network (CDN) through subsciption management, or via Red Hat Network (see documentation for details). Support: RHEL-OSP-5 (both on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7) will have a 3-year support lifecycle, ending on 30-Jun-17, and is planned to have multiple updates throughout the Production Phase, see [2] for more details. Documentation: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/5/ Upcoming: The next releases for RHEL-OSP-5 and the installer are planned for late October. Message-ID: Hello, We are using OpenVswitch as part of a Openstack Havana installation in RHEL. We are having some problems getting some tenant networks talking to an external network. After some very deep digging we managed to nail it down to a particular bridge -external interface combination. On this bridge I am seeing something I cannot explain. The situation: OVS 2.1.3 We have a bridge br700 # ovs-ofctl show br700 OFPT_FEATURES_REPLY (xid=0x2): dpid:0000c81f66db4493 n_tables:254, n_buffers:256 capabilities: FLOW_STATS TABLE_STATS PORT_STATS QUEUE_STATS ARP_MATCH_IP actions: OUTPUT SET_VLAN_VID SET_VLAN_PCP STRIP_VLAN SET_DL_SRC SET_DL_DST SET_NW_SRC SET_NW_DST SET_NW_TOS SET_TP_SRC SET_TP_DST ENQUEUE 1(bond0.700): addr:c8:1f:66:db:44:93 config: 0 state: 0 current: 10GB-FD speed: 10000 Mbps now, 0 Mbps max 10(phy-br700): addr:0e:37:ca:a0:ff:1d config: 0 state: 0 current: 10GB-FD COPPER speed: 10000 Mbps now, 0 Mbps max 11(qg-8a9cdc1f-36): addr:c8:1f:66:db:44:93 config: PORT_DOWN state: LINK_DOWN speed: 0 Mbps now, 0 Mbps max 12(qg-48834c87-cc): addr:c8:1f:66:db:44:93 config: PORT_DOWN state: LINK_DOWN speed: 0 Mbps now, 0 Mbps max LOCAL(br700): addr:c8:1f:66:db:44:93 config: 0 state: 0 speed: 0 Mbps now, 0 Mbps max OFPT_GET_CONFIG_REPLY (xid=0x4): frags=normal miss_send_len=0 (Note, ports 11 and 12 are shown as down, but seem to work just fine, is this a problem, or a red herring?) Port one is our link to the network. It tags everything with vlan700 port 11 and 12 are each a veth, connected in a linux network namespace. Those network namespaces represent Openstack routering instances. To test I enter one of those namespaces: sudo ip netns exec qrouter-e29f5fd6-a223-4e9b- 8615-5809161f821e bash # ip a 283: qg-8a9cdc1f-36: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN link/ether fa:16:3e:e3:d8:be brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 10.255.10.2/16 brd 10.255.255.255 scope global qg-8a9cdc1f-36 inet6 fe80::f816:3eff:fee3:d8be/64 scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 253: lo: mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo inet6 ::1/128 scope host valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever When I now ping the ip address of the other routing instance this works. But not straightaway: # ping 10.255.10.1 PING 10.255.10.1 (10.255.10.1) 56(84) bytes of data. >From 10.255.10.2 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable ... >From 10.255.10.2 icmp_seq=20 Destination Host Unreachable 64 bytes from 10.255.10.1: icmp_seq=21 ttl=64 time=1.51 ms 64 bytes from 10.255.10.1: icmp_seq=22 ttl=64 time=0.459 ms ... Querying the bridge mac table gives me: # ovs-appctl fdb/show br700 port VLAN MAC Age 12 0 fa:16:3e:43:f0:54 32 11 0 fa:16:3e:e3:d8:be 32 So the bridge has eventually learned where to send each packet... Now I test a ping to a host on the external network... # ping 10.255.1.108 PING 10.255.1.108 (10.255.1.108) 56(84) bytes of data. >From 10.255.10.2 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable >From 10.255.10.2 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable ... >From 10.255.10.2 icmp_seq=31 Destination Host Unreachable >From 10.255.10.2 icmp_seq=32 Destination Host Unreachable ,., This never succeeds... When we do a tcpdump on several spots in our network we see that an arp request is send out, is answered by 10.255.1.108, and is received back. However, it never makes it in to our routing instance. When looking at the bridge mac table something odd appears: # ovs-appctl fdb/show br700 port VLAN MAC Age 12 0 fa:16:3e:43:f0:54 240 1 0 fa:16:3e:e3:d8:be 116 1 0 52:54:00:3d:ee:18 116 And i think that this is the source of our problem. Somehow the bridge thinks that the mac address fa:16:3e:e3:d8:be lives behind port 1, whereas it is of crouse behind port 11. So the arp that it receices on port 1 is never forwarded. So somehow it mislearned where this mac is. But why? And how do I fix this? Is there a way to solve this? Care to tell me what > is there that I should take in to consideration? Sorry about that. Basically, Linux bonding with VLANs echoes back the ARP reply and that causes the switch to learn the MAC address in the wrong port which leads to the problem. We are still investigating this problem, so there is no final solution yet. We definitely need more info. My suggestion is to first move the vlan from Linux bonding to OVS bridge port. So, instead of tagging at the bonding device, it will be done at the OVS port. I.e.: ovs-vsctl add-port
-- set Interface tag= If that doesn't help, then use OVS built-in bonding or remove bonding at all. Please provide the feedback if possible to allow us to fix the root cause after all. I have studying RHOS documentation and been following RHOS development for some time now. I had a working RHOS 4 installation on a VM lab environment. Now moving on to RHOS 5 and want to play with it. The end goal is to obtain relevant certification. The trouble I'm having is that, without subscription I don't get access to the content in RHN or CDN. ( I used evaluation license when playing with RHOS 4). Hence I'm willing to buy subscription. Now I don't seem to find any info regarding purchasing subscription for individual educational use. I wrote to RedHat sales but didn't get any response. I was wondering how people (in individual level) are getting around it. Thanks in advance Kind regards Maruf -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is the fifth set of changes made since its public availability on 19-Dec-13. Additional bugfix and security releases are planned to occur over the lifecycle of the product. For full lifecycle information, see [1]. A total of 154 updates were made in this release. This includes a rebase to stable branch 2013.2.4 [2], select bugfixes, customer issues, security updates, and select feature updates. This release also serves to provide additional hardening, stability and functionality by validating upstream bugs, and providing updates to RHEL OpenStack Platform documentation. This is the final upstream Havana stable release, so future releases of RHEL-OSP-4 will be specific backports and Red Hat only changes. Rebase to 2013.2.3 for: - OpenStack Compute (Nova) - OpenStack Identity (Keystone) - OpenStack Image Registry and Delivery Service (Glance) - OpenStack Networking (Neutron) - OpenStack Block Storage (Cinder) - OpenStack Dashboard (Horizon) - OpenStack Orchestration (Heat) - OpenStack Telemetry (Ceilometer) Errata: - openstack-packstack ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1691.html - python-backports ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1690.html - openstack-nova ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1689.html - main bugfix advisory ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2014-1696.html - openstack-keystone ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1688.html - openstack-heat ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1687.html - openstack-cinder ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2014-1695.html - openstack-neutron ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1686.html - openstack-glance ? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1685.html Documentation: - All 4.0 Guides: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/4/ - Technical notes: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/4/html/Technical_Notes/index.html - Release notes: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/4/html/Release_Notes/index.html RHEL-OSP 4.0 A4 will rely on RHEL 6.6.
