Windows7 also supports UEFI so you can use OVMF firmware just fine.
People are not aware of this probably because its rare to see ISO
with UEFI support. I rebuilt ISO on my own to make win7 UEFI VM. So
nope you are not stupid :)<br>

I've spent a few days going back and forth and
retrying steps from various guides so I cant
give a comprehensive description of my setup and
everything I've done up to this point, but I'm
running a 64bit Windows 7 VM using libvert,
qemu, vfio-pci, and OMVF as per <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF"
target="_blank"><a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF">https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF</a></a>.
<div>I've got the VM booting with the PCI device
showing as a 'display adaptor' with a code 10
in the device manager, and when I try to
install catalyst it currently reports the
device as a hd7870 and the error code simply
tells me to reboot before I can use the
device. However on reboot windows 7 fails to
restart until I do a system restore, even if I
remove the PCI device from the VM using
virt-manager.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I'd love some help or just directions to
any previous cases that look the same.</div>
<div>Thanks, Matt</div>
