I strongly suspect this is due to a bug in the driver.  You're at least
the 3rd person to report this, although I think we're all using
different Radeon cards.  I'm using a 7000 and have seen this since
upgrading to 4.0.3-5 (which fixed the "primary screen blanks when you
click on the secondary screen" problem).
