We should probably rename the field which appears in Server Configuration. That email address is the "From address" used when Zanata has to send an email, ie a system message. A typical value would be noreply at example.com. The other address, seen when managing maintainers, is used as the "To address" when Zanata has to send an email to that particular user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. If you remove them from "Selected Locales", they will move to "Available Locales". "Available Locales" really means "Available but unselected Locales". I think it's a pretty common UI convention. It has the advantage that you can double-click on entries, and they keep moving to the other side so that you can double-click on the next entry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. The GNU gettext manual has a few things to say about the key-value fields in the header. http://www.gnu.org/s/hello/manual/gettext/Header-Entry.html In particular, these fields should come from xgettext (or more generally, the source document, ie POT): Project-Id-Version Report-Msgid-Bugs-To POT-Creation-Date and these fields are mentioned as specific to the PO file: PO-Revision-Date Last-Translator Language-Team Language Content-Type Content-Transfer-Encoding Plural-Forms In the Java PO client, the POT fields mentioned above are imported into Resource/HDocument, (along with MIME-Version Content-Type Content-Transfer-Encoding), and written out as-is when generating a POT file. When importing a PO file, we preserve PO-Revision-Date Last-Translator Language-Team Language Plural-Forms X-Generator but not the POT fields Project-Id-Version Report-Msgid-Bugs-To POT-Creation-Date MIME-Version Content-Type Content-Transfer-Encoding I think this importing is mostly correct, but: 1. Ideally, we should use each file's (POT or PO) declared MIME-Version Content-Type Content-Transfer-Encoding when reading, to ensure we use the correct character encoding. 2. Once we've read the file, it's probably not necessary to store which MIME-Version/Content-Type/Content-Transfer-Encoding was used. (We currently do store it, but only for POT.) 3. We should generate reasonable values for MIME-Version/Content-Type/Content-Transfer-Encoding when exporting PO or POT files. 4. Important: we should *copy* Project-Id-Version Report-Msgid-Bugs-To POT-Creation-Date from the template (Resource/HDocument) when generating PO files. 5. Most important: we need to test that the PO fields PO-Revision-Date Last-Translator Language-Team Language Plural-Forms X-Generator are preserved during a PO file's round trip through Zanata. #1, #2 and #3 are client-side issues, but probably not high priority since everything is probably UTF-8. #4 is something we should handle on the server in ResourceUtils.transferToTranslationsResourceExtensions() if only to avoid implementing it once per client. #5 is basically what we need to do with PO metadata right now, in sprint 22. -- Sean Flanigan Senior Software Engineer Engineering - Internationalisation Red Hat -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Actually, I think we also store this three entries for PO. look at http://code.google.com/p/flies/wiki/RestExtensions#For_TranslationsResource In "entries" of "extension", we store this three entries using {"key":"","value":""} > 3. Important: we should *copy* > Project-Id-Version > Report-Msgid-Bugs-To > POT-Creation-Date > from the template (Resource/HDocument) when generating PO files. This also make me confuse, since we could also read "Project-Id-Version" and "POT-Creation-Date" from "entries" of "extensions" of TranslationsResource, without the template. Normally, the po files also have these entries, when importing po, the server also preserve these entries using "entries" of "extension". > 5. I haven't looked at what Python does here, I was just describing the Java implementation. At present the server will just store any key-value pairs you give it, so if you include these values, they will be persisted. However, these three fields are really only artefacts of the storage mechanism (the encoding in the gettext file), so I don't think we should store them in the server. >> 3. We should generate reasonable values for >> MIME-Version/Content-Type/Content-Transfer-Encoding when exporting PO >> or >> POT files. >> 4. Normally, the po files also have these entries, when importing po, the server also preserve these entries using "entries" of "extension". But the server shouldn't have to. The server should be storing POT fields against the *source* document, and shouldn't need to store redundant copies against the target documents too. "Project-Id-Version" and "POT-Creation-Date" might be out-of date in the PO file (or in the TranslationsResource). In a gettext environment, msgmerge would take care of updating the PO file with these POT values. But we can't expect the user to run msgmerge after exporting PO files; we need to make sure we use the correct values. But as I said, this filtering/copying should be done on the server. As with comments, the clients should just pass these values straight through in both directions. >> 5. When saving a translation entered through web interface: - Credit translation to current Zanata user. 3. When pushing (or importing) an updated document (even if there are no new translations) - Simply replace old headerComment with new headerComment. Skip any lines which include #zanata. 4. When pulling (exporting) translations - Output comment as (headerComment + generatedComments). - generatedComments has one line per translator per year, skips imported translations: # AUTHOR NAME , YEAR. #zanata From flies at googlecode.com Mon Apr 11 05:40:50 2011 From: flies at googlecode.com (flies at googlecode.com) Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2011 05:40:50 +0000 Subject: [zanata-devel] Issue 269 in flies: Story: As a project maintainer I would like to keep the history of previous translators that have worked on a PO file In-Reply-To: <3-16571186988156242139-8752489353006280183-flies=googlecode.com@googlecode.com> References: <3-16571186988156242139-8752489353006280183-flies=googlecode.com@googlecode.com> <0-16571186988156242139-8752489353006280183-flies=googlecode.com@googlecode.com> Message-ID: <4-16571186988156242139-8752489353006280183-flies=googlecode.com@googlecode.com> Comment #4 on issue 269 by sean.flanigan: Story: As a project maintainer I would like to keep the history of previous translators that have worked on a PO file http://code.google.com/p/flies/issues/detail?id=269 Pushing updates needs to be more complicated (again): 1. When pushing (importing) a brand-new document to Zanata: - Just import original comment verbatim as headerComment. - Translations are marked as "imported" (because real credits come from comment above). 2. When saving a translation entered through web interface: - Credit translation to current Zanata user. 3. When pushing (or importing) an updated document (even if there are no new translations) - If merging: line by line, compare imported comment to headerComment, append any new lines to headerComment. - If importing: replace old headerComment with new headerComment. - In both cases: Skip any lines which include #zanata. 4. When pulling (exporting) translations - Output comment as (headerComment + generatedComments). - generatedComments has one line per translator per year, skips imported translations: # AUTHOR NAME , YEAR. #zanata Why the change? Merging must handle the possibility that two translators both push the same PO file around the same time. 1. Alice translates the PO file in Zanata. # Alice , 2011. #zanata 2. Bob pulls the PO file, as updated by Alice. 3. Charlie also pulls the PO file, as updated by Alice. 4. Bob adds a credit comment and some translations, pushes to Zanata. # Alice , 2011. #zanata # Bob , 2011. 4. Charlie also adds a credit comment and some translations, pushes to Zanata. # Alice , 2011. #zanata # Charlie , 2011. If "latest push wins", Charlie would erase Bob's credit from existence without even meaning to.
