i386 libs in yum

I am trying to install apt (I think from fedora.us or Newrpms) and with
my normal yum setup I get these errors:

> Resolving dependencies
> .....Unable to satisfy dependencies
> Package apt needs libbeecrypt.so.6, this is not available.
> Package apt needs libbz2.so.1, this is not available.
> Package apt needs libelf.so.1, this is not available.
> Package apt needs libreadline.so.4, this is not available.
> Package apt needs librpm-4.2.so, this is not available.
> Package apt needs librpmdb-4.2.so, this is not available.
> Package apt needs librpmio-4.2.so, this is not available.

Just to make sure that I have them in x86_64 format you can see below:

> [root at tuxpenguin root]# yum provides librpm-4.2.so
> ....
> Looking in installed packages for a providing package
> Installed package: rpm.x86_64 0:4.2.1-0.30 matches with
> /usr/lib64/librpm-4.2.so
> Installed package: rpm.x86_64 0:4.2.1-0.30 matches with
>  librpm-4.2.so()(64bit)
> 2 results returned

and so I have added the fedora i386 base os repository (as has been
said) and yum wants to install all of these:

> Resolving dependencies
> .Dependencies resolved
> I will do the following:
> [install: apt 0.5.15cnc5-0.fdr.10.1.i386]
> I will install/upgrade these to satisfy the dependencies:
> [deps: elfutils-libelf 0.89-2.i386]
> [deps: rpm 4.2.1-0.30.i386]
> [deps: bzip2-libs 1.0.2-10.i386]
> [deps: beecrypt 3.0.1-0.20030630.1.i386]
> [deps: popt 1.8.1-0.30.i386]
> [deps: readline 4.3-7.i386]
> Is this ok [y/N]: N

If I say yes to this, won't it mess up my system pretty badly? I mean if
I switch from the x86_64 version of rpm and elfutils to the i386
version, won't my system be borked?
