Re: comps.xml

Hi Scott,

Since I am taking care of dependancies of all the rpms that I am installing in my ks.cfg AND I am going to use a bootable kickstart CD.
That should cover me, Right?

If I make a bootable kickstart CD, Would it still be using the comps.xml file.
I thought that comps.xml would be used ONLY with the interactive install,
when selecting certain package groups, some other would be installed depending on the installation.

Another thing I thought of If I kept a blank skeleton comps.xml file with no packages or groups
and used kickstart which had all the rpms I needed with thier dependancies.
Wouldnt that install all the rpms from the ks.cfg file.

Regards,
Keith

Yes, it's possible.  the comps.xml file has nothing
to do with which disk a particular rpm is on.  It is
what defines the relationships of various rpms to
each other, and which rpms belong to which of the
various installation packages.  You would probably
need to modify it because it will specify RPMS to
be installed when a particular "installation group"
is selected in the installer.  Since you won't be providing ALL the RPMS you will probably need to
adjust comps.xml.  The files that define which CD
a particular RPM is on are in base also, called
hdlist and hdlist2.  Those files will definitely need
modified.  Tony Nugent's HOWTO that I referenced
previously will get you started.

This is the 3rd time I have posted this question.
Was the question I asked too silly or is it that the answer is not available.
Please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi All,

I was just wondering,
Is it possible to create a customised CD of RPMS from the 3 CD's and just running genhdlist and not making any changes to the comps.xml file.
Would it work.

Why is the comps.rpm situated on the RedHat CD in RedHat/base/.
