i am running glibc-2.3.3-13mdk

thanks a lot,
besides kernel 2.6.8-rc2 adds
/sys/block/*/removable attribute,
would it be useful to add a check to skip removable devices using this?
atm dmrais still spends a lot of time on my dvd drive...
