I just tried that with an install of the augeas{,-libs,-devel} x86_64
RPM's and was able to install augeas-libs.i386 in parallel.

But to be on hte safe side, I also changed the make install line in the
spec file to 

  make install DESTDIR=$RPM_BUILD_ROOT INSTALL="%{__install} -p"
