My patch doesn't actually change this behaviour. My goal was actually 
quite focused: to reliably parse the default configuration enough to be 
able to use augeas to change the display driver.

However, I just posted another patch which does this for supported 
entries. I don't know what the policy is on API stability, but the new 
patch will change it.
