I don't know of anybody who's done anything in that area - it probably
also depends on how C++-ish you want that API to be, i.e. if you need
more than 'extern "C" { .. }' wrapped around the headers.

For the 'extern "C"' bit, I'd be more than happy to take a patch for
augeas.h
