This is failure is caused by Sphinx being hooked into the *autotest* setup.py
file. I remember writing that code, so I'm the one to blame here. I'm writing
a patch that makes Sphinx optional during the autotest build process.

Good point. Even though `make link` is still useful (it links the configuration
file) the instructions there are not complete enough.
