Hey everyone,

There has been some recent discussions on the mailing list about the
whole concept of "Long Term Stability"[1]. With that, users should be
pretty well informed about what to expect from it. And it's our sincere
hope that we managed to address the community's needs.

So, it's now time for a proper announcement so that users can be
prepared for the next LTS release. In short:

           =========================================
           Version 52.0 will be the next LTS release
           =========================================

Now, unto the FAQ section:

When is this going to be released?
----------------------------------

The next LTS release, 52.0, is expected to happen on June 19th, 2017.

For how long will it receive stability updates?
-----------------------------------------------

It will receive stability for 18 months, that is, it will reach EOL
around December 18th, 2018.

Will users have to switch immediately from 36.x to 52.x?
--------------------------------------------------------

No, users currently relying on the 36.x series (the current LTS version)
will continue to receive stability updates for another six months, that
is, until around December 18th, 2017.

Be advised, though, that if you're using the official Avocado project
LTS RPM package repo[2] and do a system update, you will receive, by
default, the packages from the next LTS release. Consult your package
manager documentation for how to pin your system to a specific package
version.

How ho I get my feature in 52.0?
--------------------------------

Short answer: by sending your RFEs and patches as soon as possible!

Long answer: version 51.0 will be a "LTS beta", and possibly your last
change of getting new features in for the 52.x series. If the core
Avocado team is unable to develop your RFE until 50.0, it's suggested
that you help the development process (send your patches!) for a better
shot of your feature making into 52.0.
