Oh sorry, this is just a kernel I built on my own.  I've just seen
multiple reports of people having trouble getting an SMP 2.6 to boot.  I
had been trying 2.6 (and 2.5) kernels on my Alpha for a while (I've not
done much with the machine lately (since I got my dual Opteron) that is
why is it still on 2.6.5).  I just wanted to show that it was possible
to get a 2.6 to boot with SMP enabled.

I don't use initrd, and the kernel is built without module support.
That may have some bearing on my success.
