Defaulting to SRM on PWS433

I'm playing with a PWS433 I've had kicking around for a while, and
I've got an annoying issue. It keeps booting into AlphaBIOS. I've set
the console type to SRM in the BIOS setup (they hid it pretty well,
didn't they?) and hitting reset after that brings up SRM. If I power
off, it boots into AlphaBIOS again.

Is this some obscure feature, or am I probably just seeing a dead
battery or something on the board? In all my messing around with
Alphas, I've never actually encountered the Windows side of things
before now ... :)
