There are many of us who believe that the canceling of Alpha was a 
prerequisite to "lunch" with Carly. ... coming as it did at the end of 
June (apparently blind siding many Alpha engineers) less than a week 
before the first "official" meeting in July.

As for porting Tru64 to Itanium... It was running on 9/11 (yes that 
9/11), but was still underperforming the Itanium emulator on Alpha. 
[The lawyers didn't get to Engineering until the end of that 
DECUS/Encompass gathering.]
