Actually, Linus was the guy with the 64-bit version and he beat the
internal DEC group (which was subsequently quickly scrachted again).
If you look at the sources of the aboot loader, you'll find his name
quite often:
/*
 * arch/alpha/lib/divide.S
 *
 * (C) 1995 Linus Torvalds
 *
 * Alpha division..
 */
