It's interesting how a name will vibrate through the cosmos sometimes (i.e., it keeps cropping up unexpectedly). This morning I discovered Lame on FreshRPMs. So presumably on Fedora and friends we could say: yum install lame or apt-get install lame I haven't tried this since I already installed it from the tarball, but it's an interesting possibility.
