ok. I'm thinking on obtaining a flite rpm, because I think that then I'll get the hard work done for me by the rpm package.

It sounds to me as if you need to add the path to your shared libs to the
/etc/ld.so.conf file

It's for DECtalk and Red Hat AS but much of it is the same.
PS: You should learn to google. You'll be able to find answers to a lot of
your questions that way. The answers might not be exactly what you're
looking for but you can often figure out what to try by finding messages
from people who have found answers to problems similar to yours.
