Let me set something straight here real quick.  This is very important. 
Never ever just use root.  Root is for system admin tasks only.  You alwayus 
want a username then this way nothing get fowled up.  This is something in 
Linux that is very important.  I apologize if I am blunt but that was the 
very first thing I learned when I started with Debian Linux.
