Hi,
I think there should be a package for 3.8.  Ubuntu uses the .deb packages 
so go and look for a .deb brltty package with the correct version.  The 
latest Ubuntu is called gutsy, that is likely where you would find the 
package.
If not, you can always compile from source, no problem with that.
