starting gnome

Hello!

How do I start gnome?

I've never found any entrance in it, my system just starts up in text mode by default.
I've installed the gnome desktop. and I would like to try out orca with braille in the meantime. I can't get ttsynth binaries for speakup, and ttsynth-say to compile, so I figured out that I'll have a break, and then give it another try when I've calmed down a bit.
