internal vs. external synthisizers?

I have both so will use the express.
By the way, any knowledgeable Linux minds in the Toronto area?
Granted the help I will have knows something about linux, but I am told 
that  the quality of an installation can depend on the skill of the person 
doing the installing, grin.
