why everything prints on one line

Because once postscript gets its mitts on the file,, postscript strips out
all of the line feeds. That's what's happening on the printer and that's
why it's happening. I proved this by doing a2ps -r -o biglots.doc
biglots.txt <cr> file biglots.doc came back as a postscript file level 3.
So mv biglots.txt biglots.ps <cr> ps2ascii biglots.ps <cr> and everything
came out as one line with headers and footers. The biglots.txt file has
13 lines in it.
