tool for detecting hardware

Hello!
Is there any tool for detecting new hardware in debian?
In fedora, when I attacheded something to the computer I used a tool called kudzu.
What to use in debian?
Also, I've got very low sound volume on my soundcard. I used aumix and set the master and wave volum to the max value but still very low
