really Weird Bug

Thanks to those who answered my question on  elinks. Now what could 
cause a program to run properly inside gdb but not from the shell? If I 
run it inside gdb it produces the expected output. If I run it from the 
connand line the desired output file is opened but contains nothing, 
while another file is written which shouldn't be.
